3.2 Types of epidemiological studies

Epidemiological studies generally fall into four broad categories:

  1. cross-sectional studies
  2. case-control studies
  3. case-control studies
  4. cohort studies
  5. intervention studies.

Each of these is addressed in turn the sections that follow.
