The next two sections will cover the initial planning for your talk and preparation of suitable material. We will then consider the important use of visual aids, and finally look at your delivery on the day.

The ability to make clear, interesting and relevant presentations is increasingly important in today's world, both in an academic and a professional context.

This image shows a mapping diagram. In the centre, there is a large oval representing ?Your presentation?. This is surrounded by four curved arrows following the line of the oval. There are two in the top half of the page and two in the bottom half of the page. The top left arrow points upwards, curving towards the right. Next to it is the word ?Reflecting?. The top right arrow points curves towards the right, curving downwards. Next to it is the word ?Planning?. Beneath this arrow, on the right of the oval, is the word ? Preparing?. Beneath it is the bottom right arrow. This curves down and round the oval shape, pointing towards the left. Next to it, placed bottom centre, beneath the oval are the words ?Making visuals?. The fourth arrow is on the left of this, curving upwards and around the oval, pointing upwards. Above it, on the left hand side of the diagram, are the words ?Giving or delivering?. This is positioned underneath the first arrow. Figure 1: The main steps towards making a presentation from start to completionLong description
