Introduction

The focus of this unit is to explore the role of a support worker. It helps to identify what is expected within a working environment, and the skills and qualities needed in order to perform their roles effectively.

You will be encouraged to think about the skills and qualities that you consider important in your own role, in order to identify any potential for professional development.

In these audio clips, Chris Kubiak, a lecturer in Health and Social Welfare at the Open University, talks to Sally, who was working as a senior occupational therapy assistant for a local Health Authority Intermediate Care Service at the time of the recording.

This unit is an adapted extract from the Open University course Introducing professional practice (K114_1)
