Thou hast entered the Gateway leading to my
Master. I am the Spirit of Truth.
Kingdom,
Disciple. O Master ! O Spirit of Truth !
Even to the Kingdom of a righteous life.
Why didst thou not come to me before ?
Henceforth thou wilt follow Truth and not self;
Why didst thou leave me so long desolate ?
Striving, thou hast entered ;
Master. Thou wert not desolate till now;
Searching, thou hast revealed ;
Pride was thy companion, and pride satisfied thee. Seeking, thou hast found.
Where pride is, there I cannot come,
Ask whatsoever thou wilt and I will not withhold
And he who listens to its flatteries, cannot hear my instruction.

Self - glory blinded thee, so that my Form thou
2. Of Entering the Way
couldst not see :
Self - exultation deafened thee, and when I called, Disciple. Teacher of teachers, instruct thou me.
thou didst not hear;
Master. Ask, and I will answer.
Self - seeking led thee astray, and my Way was
Disciple. I have read much, but am ignorant still ;
hidden from thee.
I have studied the doctrines of the schools, but have
But now, having put away pride, thou hast both
not become wise thereby ;
seen and heard.
I know the Scriptures by heart, but peace is hidden
Ask, and I will answer ;
from me.
Seek, and thou shalt find.
Point out to me, O Master! the way of knowledge,
Disciple. Comfort me, O Master! for I am weary ; Reveal to me the high way of divine wisdom, Strengthen me, for I am weak ;
Lead thou thy child into the path of peace.
Teach me, for I am lacking in knowledge.
Master. The way of knowledge, O disciple, is by
Master. He who deserts self, and takes refuge in
searching the heart;
me, is never deserted ;
The highway of wisdom is by the practice of
My Word is his comfort,
righteousness ;
My Law his strength,
And by a sinless life is found the way of peace.
And my commands his Instruction and Knowledge. Disciple. Bear with me, O Master ! in my Disciple. Speak thy Word, and I will listen;
uncertainty.
Reveal thy Law, and I will walk therein ;
I am bewildered by the multitude of opinions,
Command me, and I, thy servant, will obey ;
And by the number of schools am I confounded;
For thou art the Master whom I so long sought,
Delusion blinds me, doubt encompasses me,
And I cannot find the way wherein I should walk. But in me there is no weariness,
Teach me how to search,
And pain and sorrow cannot come to my abode.
How to practise,
My abode is a purified heart ;
How to wear the garment of a blameless life.
The upright mind is my temple ;
Master. Delusion and doubt, O disciple ! are within And the blameless life is my holy habitation.

Disciple. I will take refuge in thee ;
Within thyself, also, are reality and certainty.
In thy abode ;
By thine own errors only art thou blinded,
In thy temple ;
Remove those errors, and thou shalt behold Truth. Yea, even in thy holy habitation.
