Enable is a charity that ‘campaigns for a better life for children and adults with learning disabilities and supports them and their families to participate, work and live in their local communities? (Enable, accessed 21 November 2011). It was set up in 1954 by five parents and was originally known as the Scottish Society for the Mentally Handicapped. It has grown to be a large campaigning organisation, which provides information to help people with learning disabilities and their carers.
